Casa de Serralves, July 6th to August 26th, 2012.
Exhibition and re-staging of Almada, Um Nome de Guerra and Nós Não Estamos Algures.
Reinterpretation of two mixed media by Ernesto de Sousa Almada, Um Nome de Guerra and Nós Não Estamos Algures. Developed during the 1960s and 70s, these projects stemmed from the interest of the then filmmaker and cinema critic for the work of Almada Negreiros, who Ernesto de Sousa saw as a key figure in Portuguese contemporaneity, and the study of which should contribute to a renewal or reinvention of the avant-gardes. Alongside the presentation of these mixed media pieces, a documental exhibition is featured that outlines the process of their making, namely the collaboration with artists from areas such as graphic design (Carlos Gentil-Homem) and experimental music (Jorge Peixinho). Posters, stickers, period photographs, music scores and letters will also be shown that were gleaned from the material that has been exemplarily preserved by the National Library of Portugal, the Portuguese Film Institute – ANIM and by Isabel Alves.
