Miguel von Hafe Perez, the exhibition's curator, chose three works by Ernesto de Sousa's 1976 series “Revolution My Body” to include in the exhibition at the Serralves Museum, “Pre/Post - Visual Declinations of April 25”, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.
This project, more than just a celebratory gesture, aims to investigate the tensions, contradictions and paradoxical movements that mark the periods immediately before and after the Revolution.
In a chronological arc from 1970 to 1977, the exhibition records how the universe of the arts reflected the experiences and feelings that accompanied the revolutionary process and how it developed between utopian enthusiasm and restrained apprehension.
